Canada is not sending national teams to the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer due to the corona virus. The North American country’s Olympic and Paralympic Committees call for the Tokyo Games to be postponed by one year.
Several national Olympic committees and sports federations have already called for postponement (and / or cancellation) of the Games in Tokyo and calls from Canada are also being made to postpone the event. With the support of the athletic committees, national sports organizations and the government, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Paralympic Committee (CPC) have decided not to send teams to the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer due to the corona virus.
Both committees urge the international Olympic and paralympic committees and the World Health Organization WHO to postpone the Games by one year. “While we recognize the incidental complexities of procrastination, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our athletes and the global community,” they write in a press release published today.
