Coronavirus in Ukraine – 74-year-old doctor died in Ivano-Frankivsk – Ukraine

In Ivano-Frankivsk from a new type of coronavirus 74-year-old died pediatrician at the City Children’s Clinic.

This was announced at a briefing in the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration by Ruslan Savchuk, Chief Sanitary Doctor of the region.

According to him, the doctor died on April 9. The laboratory diagnosis of COVID-19 was confirmed only on April 16.

Savchuk also noted that there were no other cases of infection in the clinic. In total, in Ivano-Frankivsk region 84 coronaviruses were detected.

Recall outbreak of new coronavirus started with the seafood and animals market in Wuhan, China. It causes cold-like symptoms, but quickly affects the lungs and other organs. The pathogen belongs to a large family of coronaviruses. The disease has spread to dozens of countries.

The World Health Organization has officially named the coronavirus disease from China – COVID-19. In China itself, it was previously called NCP (Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia)which means pneumonia caused by a new type of coronavirus. The first vaccine this type of coronavirus will appear no earlier than a year and a half.

It looks like the source of the coronavirus outbreak is some animal. At the same time, it is known that the virus can be transmitted from person to person airborne droplets. It is suspected that the disease may be transmitted even during the incubation period, when the carrier of the disease does not suspect that he is infected.

In Ukraine, on March 3, Deputy Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko said that in Chernivtsi recorded the first case of COVID-19 infection. The infection was found in a man who returned from Italy. On the evening of March 12 in Ukraine, two more cases of coronavirus infection have been officially confirmed. Infections were recorded in Chernivtsi and Zhytomyr regions. A woman from Zhytomyr died of infection, becoming the first victim of COVID-19 in Ukraine. In the Chernivtsi region on March 16 laboratory two more cases were confirmed infection with a new coronavirus and this figure continued to increase. At the same time, the first patient from Chernivtsi was successfully treated and was discharged from hospital.

Basic guidelines for avoiding coronavirus infection:

  • avoid contact with animals;
  • not to eat raw or poorly processed meat;
  • avoid contact with people who have signs of the disease;
  • wash your hands regularly and thoroughly.
