The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that Covid-19 can become an endemic disease (which dominate constantly or resumes – Ed.) And remain among people forever. This was at a briefing said the head of emergency programs at WHO Mike Ryan, reports Reuters
“We must openly declare: this virus can become another endemic virus and never disappear,” he said.
“It is important to be realistic. I don’t think anyone can predict when this disease will disappear. Now there are no promises and exact dates. This disease may become a problem for many years, or it may not,” he added.
At the same time, Ryan emphasized that the world can control the spread of the virus with a vaccine, although it will take tremendous effort.
The head of WHO, Tedros Gebreisus, in turn, noted that the fight against a pandemic should be everyone’s business.
“Everything is in our hands. Each of us must contribute to the fight against the pandemic,” he said.
WHO experts emphasized that it is important to prevent a new outbreak of coronavirus. So, Mike Ryan noted that opening borders would be less risk than resuming flights.
Currently, more than 100 types of potential vaccines are being developed in the world, but experts are forced to admit that it will be very difficult to find an effective remedy for the disease.
As Focus previously reported:
- A new study showed that you can’t completely quarantine until a vaccine is found. Scientists believe that the complete lifting of restrictions will lead to a second and more powerful wave of coronavirus.
