Quarantine decision for Santiago, the capital of Chile, whose Covid-19 case number has skyrocketed

In the capital city of South America, Chile, Santiago, the newly seen Covid-19 case is quarantined, with the number of cases increasing by 60 percent in one day.

Health Minister Jaime Manalich announced that they had to take this ‘most extreme measure’ in the capital, where 80 percent of more than 34,000 cases in the country are seen.

Despite loosening the measures in some regions before, this decision showed that the return of economic life to the country in the country will take a little longer.

He has applied to the Chilean International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is dealing with economic problems along with the epidemic, for a $ 23.8 billion flexible credit line that will cover the next two years.

‘Battle of Santiago’

Chile has preferred temporary and regional restrictions so far in the fight against the epidemic. While the night curfew was imposed in Santiago and other major cities, only quarantine was applied in areas with a high number of cases.

The government announced in early May that the epidemic began to decline by seeing the peak. However, due to the re-acceleration observed afterwards, the authorities started to characterize the struggle in the capital where the epidemic intensified as “the Battle of Santiago”.

But the rapid increase in the number of people infected with the virus in Santiago in the past 10 days has prompted the government to worry. 2 thousand 260 new cases and 12 deaths that were detected on Wednesday led to quarantine decisions.

During the application, which will start at 10 a.m. local time on Friday, it will not be allowed to leave the houses except for food and medicine shopping.

In Chile, 34,381 Covid-19 cases have been identified so far, while 346 people have died.
