Minister: children are allowed on summer camp under certain conditions

This is reported by Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) to the House of Representatives. A special protocol has been drawn up with the cooperation of the Dutch Association for Pediatrics (NVK). That already received a positive opinion from the Outbreak Management Team (OMT).

With this, De Jonge sees ‘no obstacles to organizing summer camps for young people up to the age of 18’.

As much as possible outside

According to the protocol, children with mild complaints or sick housemates are not allowed to come along. Young people above the age of 12 must keep a distance of 1.5 meters and activities are organized outdoors as much as possible.

Participants are divided into smaller groups and must remain in their own so-called camp bubble throughout the camp. “Activities such as camps and holidays are important for the development and well-being of children and young people,” says De Jonge. For children in vulnerable positions, or with a disability, that is “extra important” according to the minister.
