The Mexican government is ready to negotiate with the Russian authorities about the possible purchase of the Russian drug Avifavir for the treatment of patients with coronavirus. This was during a daily press conference, the president of the Latin American state, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

As reported on website Mexican government, the authorities are open to participation in cooperation with any country on the acquisition of the drug. Obrador added that he was happy to receive an offer from the Russian government.

The head of Mexico also suggested that the head of the Mexican Foreign Ministry, Marcelo Ebrard, had already considered such an opportunity and would try to contact Russia, noting that the countries had good relations.

Avifavir is an analogue of the Japanese Favipiravir. On May 29, the Ministry of Health included it in the state registry of medicines for a period until January 1, 2021. The effectiveness of the drug is over 80%.

On July 8, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, announced that applications for the purchase of the Russian drug had already been received from different countries, including the CIS states, Latin America, Europe and Southeast Asia.
