A minute of silence was held in Kazakhstan in memory of the victims of the coronavirus pandemic, Sputnik Kazakhstan reports.

President Kassym-Zhomart Tokaev and officials gathered in front of the residence of the head of state to commemorate the victims. The ceremony was attended by the Secretary of State, the head of the presidential administration, the secretary of the Security Council, the head of the president’s office and the minister of health. A moment of silence was broadcast live on TV channels.

July 13 is declared the day of national mourning for the victims of the pandemic. State flags are lowered in Kazakhstan and entertainment events are canceled.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, nearly 60 thousand cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in the country. More than 34 thousand patients recovered, 375 people died. In addition, in June 2020, 628 people in Kazakhstan died of pneumonia.
