Bolivia’s caretaker Foreign Minister Karen Longarric announced Monday that she had contracted the coronavirus. He became the sixth member of the government formed by the interim president, the former senator of the right, Janine Anies – she has also been infected – to be infected by SARS-CoV-2.
“At the moment, I am fine and have no symptoms. “God willing, I will continue to work for Bolivia from isolation in my home,” Longarrick said via Twitter.
Transitional President Anies and the Presidency, Health, Mines, Economy and Justice Ministers have also been infected with the coronavirus. Several deputy ministers have also been infected. Among those attacked is Senate President Eva Kopa of the Movement for Socialism (MAS). MP Julio Jimenez, who belonged to the MAS parliamentary group, succumbed to COVID-19.
Most of the politicians who have been affected say they are well and working in isolation in their homes.
The rapid spread of the coronavirus pandemic continues in the Andean country. Bolivia recorded a total of 1,807 deaths due to COVID-19 out of a total of 48,187 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection on Sunday.
The country’s health system is under increasing pressure, as are cemeteries. Some families, according to press reports, are forced to wait for days before the bodies of their loved ones are collected for burial.
Other Latin American politicians affected by the coronavirus include Brazilian President Zaich Bolsonaro, his Honduran counterpart Juan Orlando Hernandez, Venezuelan Socialist Party leader Venezuela Diocletian and Diocletian Diocletian. .
