If the coronavirus vaccine enters serial production by the end of 2020, it is possible that by the end of 2021 people who are at risk and most in need of protection will receive it. According to him, now in the world is about 700 tests.

“22 vaccines are undergoing clinical trials in countries such as the United Kingdom, China, USA, Germany, South Korea, Japan and Canada. Several vaccines, namely those developed in China and Britain, are now in the third phase of clinical trials. It is the third the research phase is about security. It is being tested on tens of thousands of people, “said Habicht.

According to him, WHO, in collaboration with the Coalition of Innovation for Epidemic Preparedness and the GAVI organization (a partnership of organizations whose goal is to increase the availability of childhood vaccination in poor countries) will determine the principle of distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“The objective of this collaboration is to distribute 2 billion doses of these vaccines around the world. Of these, 1 billion should be sent to low and middle income countries,” said the head of the WHO office in Ukraine.

He noted that discussions are underway about which country should be the first.

“The priority groups can be health workers, people with concomitant diseases, those over 65 years old. If production increases and exceeds 2 billion doses, we can distribute more vaccines. WHO’s role is to help develop these criteria and help distribute the vaccine among countries “, Says Habicht.
