The German government tightened the measures after the reproduction number had risen above 1 again. Now face masks are mandatory on public transport, in public buildings and shops, but also on entry and movement in restaurants and cafes.
About 17,000 people have signed up for a Saturday rally on a major road in the Tiergarten park, not far from parliament. They meet under the motto “The end of the pandemic: Freedom Day”. The initiators previously held demonstrations elsewhere against the restrictions imposed by the German government to contain the coronavirus.
“We want democracy back,” many protesters call themselves slaves of the German state. They are convinced that under no circumstances can oral masks help to contain the corona virus and that the government imposes special far-reaching measures to break democracy.
