The Spanish newspaper Marca reports that the organizers of the US Open want to tighten the medical protocol. They want to remove from the tournament all players whose team members are found to have the coronavirus – even if the players themselves are tested negative.
According to the newspaper, ATP is against such a step. The organization is even ready to cancel the awarding of ranking points for the tournament.
If this happens, the TV rights to the tournament will bring the organizers less money.
In addition, the cancellation of the Madrid tournament, which will be announced shortly, is reportedly complicating negotiations between the USTA and the Italian authorities regarding a quarantine for players flying from the United States to the tournament in Rome.
