WHO chief: The money pledged to fight coronavirus is not enough

According to the head of the WHO, the next three months are crucial for the fight against the covidu-19 pandemic. But in order for the world to use this time effectively, funding would need to be improved, according to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. There is a “huge global gap” between needed and promised funding.

“We’re about ten percent,” said the head of the WHO today, according to which tens of billions of dollars will be needed to fight the pandemic. “One hundred billion dollars (2.2 trillion CZK) will be needed for the vaccine alone,” he said.

Now, according to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, it is important to continue efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus, which has infected almost 20 million people worldwide. With covid-19, over 730,000 people died.

WHO crisis expert Mike Ryan said today that the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has not yet shown signs of seasonality, such as the flu. If the authorities stop suppressing the spread of the virus over the summer, according to Ryan, the number of cases will increase again, as can be observed in many European countries in recent days, including the Czech Republic.
