“The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba had a telephone conversation with the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Gaiko Maas. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister thanked his German counterpart for accepting the invitation to visit Ukraine on an important day for our country – Independence Day,” the statement said.
It is noted that the ministers discussed the situation with the spread of COVID-19 in both countries and the measures taken by governments to combat the coronavirus.
Dmytro Kuleba expressed special gratitude to his German counterpart for the readiness of the German Government to provide Ukraine with 18 ventilators: “For us, this is a real friendly gesture and a show of German solidarity in combating the coronavirus pandemic.”
The interlocutors discussed the situation in Donbass. Dmytro Kuleba informed Gaiko Maas about the regime of complete and comprehensive ceasefire, thanks to which no Ukrainian servicemen have been killed or wounded in battle for more than two weeks. Ministers agreed that a permanent ceasefire in the environmental zone could create the preconditions for a further peaceful settlement.
The parties discussed the prospects of contacts at the level of the Quartet of Normandy and agreed that such a meeting of the four ministers is urgently needed in the coming months.
Dmytro Kuleba and Gaiko Maas exchanged views on the situation in Belarus. The Foreign Minister of Ukraine informed his German counterpart about the detention by the Belarusian authorities of two Ukrainian human rights activists of the public organization Vostok SOS, Yevhen Vasyliyev and Konstantin Reutsky. Ministers agreed to liaise on the situation.
It will be recalled that Ukraine offered Saudi Arabia to resume online political consultations between the foreign ministries of the states for the first time in 11 years.
