An order for direct epidemiological sampling of travelers was given by the Attica Regional Governor.

A special action will be carried out by the Attica Region in cooperation with the Medical Association of Athens, in the two major ports of Piraeus and Rafina, on Sunday, August 16, by order of the President of ISA and Attica Regional Governor, George Patoulis.

The aim is to raise the awareness of travelers returning from vacation, in order to protect the whole community from the possible spread of SARS-CoV-2 virus in their environment or in the community and especially in vulnerable groups.

Special units of the Coordination Center of the Attica Region and the Medical Association of Athens, which for three months now carry out sampling tests for COVID-19 in Attica (more than 3,000 tests have been performed), will be from Sunday morning until sunset in the ports of Piraeus and Rafina for epidemiological sampling to travelers. Sampling will be randomized.

At the same time, volunteers will distribute information material with precautionary instructions to prevent the epidemic from spreading, informing travelers in detail about the dangers of transmitting COVID-19 to the community. Emphasis is placed on cases of asymptomatic carriers and activities, which during the trip may have exposed citizens to an increased risk of transmitting the disease.

The President of the ISA and Attica Regional Governor George Patoulis, referring to the inspections, stressed: heart of summer, the 15th of August.

That is why we hasten, from the first day of the return of the excursionists to the basin, to check, raise awareness and inform about the individual responsibility required of all of us and the care for the protection of our cities from the terrible epidemic.

We will stand guard at the entrance gates of the country, but also through the call center 1110 that responds to the calls of the citizens on a 24-hour basis, we will continue to be vigilant for the safety of society as a whole and especially of our most vulnerable citizens. “
