Health officials in Tokyo announced today that 389 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been confirmed in the past 24 hours in the Japanese capital.
This is the first time the number of confirmed cases has exceeded 300 since August 9th.
62% of cases are people under the age of 40. The number of patients in serious condition increased by 3 in 24.
The governor of the metropolitan area of the capital, Yuriko Koike, advised residents to stay home during the O-Bonn holiday season, when thousands of them traditionally travel to rural areas to visit relatives or travel.
In all, Japanese authorities have so far recorded 1,090 deaths from COVID-19 out of a total of almost 54,000 SARS-CoV-2 infections since the virus began to spread across the territory.
