President Chan Santokhi, First Lady Melissa Santokhi-Seenachery and Minister Albert Ramdin of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation have been tested negative for the COVID-19 virus. The delegation attended the inauguration of Guyanese President Irfaan Ali last weekend. After returning, news reached the head of state that Guyanese Foreign Minister Hugh Todd has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Suriname Communication Service (CDS) says the head of government and the team are resuming their work schedule according to the protocols. The president’s visit to the Ministry of Health this morning has been canceled pending the test result. The schedule of the head of state is being adapted and further implemented in accordance with the applicable COVID-19 protocols.

The government asks society to regard this as an eye-opener and to observe all applicable COVID-19 protocols at all times.
