Ukraine reports 1732 new cases in the last 24 hours

Ukraine has reported a record 1,732 cases of infection with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total balance of contamination since the beginning of the pandemic to 87,872, local authorities quoted by EFE said on Friday, and Agerpres.

According to the National Council in charge of monitoring the situation caused by the new coronavirus, the record previously recorded, on August 13, was 1,592 cases of COVID-19. The highest number of cases in a single day was reported in the Kharkov (205), Lviv (186) and Odessa (160) regions. 158 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the Ukrainian capital Kiev.

Deaths associated with COVID-19 infection in a single day amounted to 19, according to official sources, bringing the total number of deaths associated with this disease to 2,011. Ukrainian Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said on Thursday that the authorities planned to resume their own production of vaccines in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“If one country has its own vaccine production, it is less dependent on the others,” Stepanov said, noting that during the Soviet Union, Ukraine had a “very solid” scientific base and could produce vaccines.
